NearField does not put a visibility rule on every block. Conditional display is one block (called Conditional, in the Smart group) which holds two branches and decides between them when the page renders.
How the Conditional block decides
Then show
A Promo Box
“New here? Start at the otter deck. Feeding is at 11.”
Otherwise show
Nothing
The default. A returning visitor sees the page without this block, and nothing takes its place.
Both slots take a real block: Text, Heading, Image, Button, Promo Box, Map, Feedback Form, Quick Choice, Rating, Check-In, Geo Check-In, or Nothing. “Otherwise” also covers everyone who has not answered the question yet, which is every first-time visitor who has not reached it on the page.
Writing a rule
- 1
Add a Conditional block
It is in the block picker under Smart, and it needs the Growth plan for visitors to see it. A free account can build with it, and the 14-day trial shows it to visitors.
- 2
Choose the answer to check
The first field lists the answers this visitor could be carrying: anything a Memory block on your Experiences has asked them, plus built-in facts like how many times they have visited.
- 3
Choose the condition
Is, is not, contains, greater than, and a check for whether they have visited a particular Experience before. The choices adapt to the kind of answer you picked.
- 4
Set the compare value
Depending on the condition this is a value, a minimum number of visits, or an Experience to check against.
- 5
Fill in Then show
The content a matching visitor sees. You are writing it inside the block, not pointing at a block elsewhere on the page.
- 6
Fill in Otherwise show
What everyone else sees. Leave it empty and everyone else sees nothing at all, which is a legitimate choice, and the one people forget they made.
What can go inside a branch
The two branches use a reduced editor rather than the full block picker. You can put a heading, text, an image, a button, a promo box, a map, a feedback block, a Quick Choice, a rating or a check-in inside a branch, or nothing.
Anything more elaborate belongs outside the Conditional as an ordinary block. If you find yourself wanting a whole second page inside a branch, that is a second Experience, and a button in the branch is the way to reach it.

Where the answers come from
Every Memory block writes an answer against the visitor: Quick Choice, Rating, Custom Input, Check-In, Quiz, Name, Email and Phone Capture. Those answers travel across your Experiences, so a question asked at the entrance can steer a page at the far end of the building. See what Memory remembers.

Example
Harbour Point Aquarium
The entrance Marker asks one Quick Choice: “First time here?” The touch pool page then runs a Conditional on that answer. First-timers get “Start at the far end and work back. The rays are fed at 2pm.” Everyone else gets “The new seahorse tank opened this month, two doors down.” Same Marker, same page, two useful answers.
Testing a rule
- 1
Preview the Experience on your phone
The preview renders whichever branch your own stored answers put you in.
- 2
Answer the question the rule depends on
Then reload. The other branch should appear.
- 3
Check the empty case
Use a private browsing window, or Forget me in the Inclusion Bar's Adjust menu, to see the page exactly as a stranger does.
Can I put two conditions on one block?
One rule per Conditional block, and a Conditional cannot be nested inside another one's branch. Where you want two conditions, ask a single question whose answer captures both cases.
Does a hidden branch still get read aloud?
No. Read-aloud narrates what is actually on the screen, so a visitor hears the branch they were shown and not the other one.
Does the visitor know something was hidden?
No. The branch that does not apply is not rendered at all, and no gap is left where it would have been.
Can I show a block only on certain dates?
Not with a rule. For a seasonal change, edit the block: an edit to a published Experience is live the next time somebody opens it.
