Everything below was checked against what NearField actually ships. Where we could not find an equivalent, this page says there is none rather than pointing you at something adjacent and hoping.
The service guarantees
42Kites sold three named commitments alongside its Premium plan. None of the three carried over as a named service. What exists instead is narrower, and worth reading precisely.
| What you had | What exists now |
|---|---|
| Always Perfect: damaged cards and cracked holders replaced at no cost, forever, shipping included | A replacement promise for hardware that does not work: if a Marker does not work, we replace it. That covers a faulty Marker. It is not a cover-anything replacement for cards damaged in service, and it is not a named plan perk. |
| Helping Hand: unlimited access to a design and tech team who would build the Experience for you, edit your video, transcribe audio and design your artwork | No equivalent service package. What replaces part of it is a tool: the builder can draft an Experience from a website address or a written description, and you can then ask it in plain language to change things. It is not a person, and it does not edit video. |
| Impossible To Fail: a human walking you through setup one-to-one over video, at no extra cost, until it worked | No equivalent named guarantee, and no published response time. Support is a real person by email, and the contact form is the way to reach one. |
The AR app
The 42Kites AR app placed virtual devices around your space so you could see where cards would go before buying them. There is no NearField equivalent. It is not in the iOS app, which is a companion for running your account rather than a sales tool.
NearField does have a View in AR block, but it is a different thing for a different person: it lets a visitor place a 3D object in their own room from your Experience. It does not preview Marker placement, and it is on the Enterprise plan.
Blocks with no equivalent
- The Custom module
- On 42Kites you saved an empty placeholder, filed a ticket, and a staff member hand-coded content into it. There is no custom-code block and no concierge equivalent. If you had one, tell us what it did. Some of them are now ordinary blocks.
- Spacer
- No Spacer block. Spacing between blocks is handled by the layout, so pages stay consistent on a phone. A Divider gives you a visible break where you want one.
- SlideShare
- No SlideShare embed. Export the deck as a PDF and use a File Action. PDFs render inside the Experience rather than downloading, which behaves better on a phone than the old embed did.
- Jump links to another block
- In-page links addressed by a block's sort number have no equivalent, because sort numbers are gone. Use an Accordion to keep a long page navigable, or split it into several Experiences and connect them with an Explore More block.
Account features that did not come across
- Two-factor authentication with an authenticator app. Not present. Sign-in is a password, Google, or Apple in the iOS app. Use a long password and a password manager.
- Sub-accounts split by our staff. Replaced, and improved: Projects let you group Experiences per property yourself, with stats rolling up per property.
- Ticket-based everything. There is no ticket queue. Ordering, designing, registering, splitting properties and cancelling are all things you do yourself now, which is faster but does mean nobody does them for you.
Hardware
The shop sells one form factor: a three-inch, UV-resistant square with a chip inside, a printed code on the face, and mounting adhesive included. The screw-mounted holder assembly (base, windshield, silicone wrap and screws) is not in the catalogue. The holders you already own still fit the cards you already own, and nothing about the card changed.
Two claims from the old site we will not repeat
- Translation covers 20 languages, one of which is English, so 19 to translate into. Any larger number you read on the old site was wrong.
- Nothing here is unlimited. Every upload has a size cap, and every plan has a number of Experiences and a number of linkable Markers. Those numbers are on the pricing page and on your Account page.
Will any of these come back?
Some are on the list and some are not. Telling us which one you need is the thing most likely to move it, and it is genuinely how the roadmap gets ordered.
I paid for Premium partly for Helping Hand. What now?
Get in touch. We would rather work out what you actually need than have you sitting on a plan whose best part is gone.
Is there a service level for support?
There is no published response time. That was true on 42Kites too, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. A real person reads what you send.
Something you relied on that is not on this list? Tell us what it did and we will tell you straight whether it exists.
