The thirty-second version
Static QR codes bake the destination directly into the pattern. They're free, never expire, and can encode URLs, plain text, Wi-Fi credentials, or contact cards. The downside: once printed, the destination is locked.
Dynamic QR codes encode a short redirect URL that you control. The destination can change anytime (new menu, new event, new landing page) without reprinting. You also get scan analytics.

The decision table
| If you need... | Use |
|---|---|
| A Wi-Fi credential card for guests | Static |
| A permanent business-card link to a portfolio | Static |
| A code on a restaurant menu (prices, items change) | Dynamic |
| A code in retail signage or window decals | Dynamic |
| A code on event collateral that's seasonal | Dynamic |
| A code printed in a single magazine issue | Static |
| A code on packaging that ships for months | Dynamic |
| A code on a hotel-room Marker (multi-purpose) | Dynamic |
| A vCard on a one-off conference badge | Static |
| You want scan analytics | Dynamic: always |
The honest cost difference
Most dynamic-QR services charge a monthly subscription per code. NearField doesn't: every Experience you build comes with its own dynamic QR (and an NFC chip if you order a Marker). The free tier covers one Experience and unlimited destination changes. You pay for physical Markers when you want the tap-anywhere experience, not for the redirect itself.
